Working within an all-female production
CALIBRATION is being produced by an all-female crew, with women occupying leadership positions across every department.
For Eva, this working environment is one of the project's most appealing qualities.
"Seeing women lead every department and support one another is especially empowering."
She values mutual respect, openness, and teamwork, qualities that align closely with Serani Studio's approach to building a collaborative production culture.
An all-female production does not remove the pressures of filmmaking. Schedules remain demanding, budgets remain finite and difficult decisions still have to be made. What it offers is an opportunity for women to exercise creative and operational authority across the entire production, while establishing their own working relationships and professional networks.
For Eva, being part of that environment is both a professional opportunity and a chance to collaborate with women whose ambitions extend beyond this individual film.
Looking beyond CALIBRATION
Eva's ambitions in filmmaking are not limited to unit and location management.
She hopes to continue developing her experience across different areas of the industry, including opportunities in front of the camera.
In early 2027, she plans to spend a year in the United States, working, building professional connections and gaining further international experience before returning to Europe.
For now, CALIBRATION provides another opportunity to develop her production experience while contributing to a film whose subject matter reflects some of the questions she has encountered through her healthcare career.
Her path from dance to physiotherapy and filmmaking may appear unconventional, but the disciplines share important foundations: observation, preparation, adaptability and an understanding of people.
On a film set, where the unexpected is often the only certainty, those qualities matter.
EVA JELÍNKOVÁ: A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE BEHIND THE SCENES OF CALIBRATION
With a background spanning classical dance, physiotherapy and, more recently, film production, Eva Jelínková brings an unusual combination of discipline, adaptability and human understanding to her role as Unit & Location Manager on CALIBRATION.
Film production depends as much on what happens behind the camera as what appears in front of it. Locations must be prepared, schedules coordinated, practical problems resolved and crews supported, often under considerable time pressure.
For Eva Jelínková, Unit & Location Manager on the upcoming psychological dystopian drama CALIBRATION, it is precisely this unpredictable environment that makes filmmaking so appealing.
"I'm not a fan of dull, repetitive routines, so what excites me most about this role is that every day brings something different — new challenges to tackle, new people to meet, and constant opportunities to learn."
From the National Theatre to international film sets
Eva's route into filmmaking has been anything but conventional.
Her involvement in the performing arts began in childhood, directing school theatre productions and student films before spending four years studying ballet and contemporary dance at a dance conservatory. During this period, she also had the opportunity to perform at the National Theatre.
Her fascination with the human body and a desire to help others subsequently led her to study physiotherapy at Charles University in Prague.
Yet the creative world remained a constant presence.
Over the past year, Eva has worked on international film productions alongside prominent actors and directors, gaining firsthand experience of the industry and strengthening her determination to pursue filmmaking as a career, both in front of and behind the camera.
Her background in healthcare has also proved surprisingly relevant to the demands of production.
Physiotherapy requires meticulous observation, systematic problem-solving, clear communication and an ability to remain composed when circumstances change unexpectedly. On a film set, these qualities become particularly valuable.
Managing the reality behind a dystopian world
Directed by Serani Hunyi and produced by Prague-based Serani Studio, in association with Bottomline AI, CALIBRATION is set in a dystopian Prague 2040.
The production takes an unconventional approach to creating its futuristic environment. Rather than constructing elaborate sets or physically transforming entire locations, the film will use existing Prague architecture as its foundation, with much of the dystopian world created through AI-assisted visual transformation in post-production.
This approach allows the production to maintain a recognisable, grounded environment while introducing subtle but unsettling changes to the city and its institutions.
For Eva, the challenge lies primarily in managing the real locations and the people working within them.
As Unit & Location Manager, she helps coordinate the practical requirements of filming across multiple sites, ensuring that locations are prepared, access and logistics are managed, and the production can operate efficiently within its tightly controlled schedule.
It is a role that requires constant communication between the production team, location representatives, and crew, particularly on an independent film where time and resources must be carefully managed.
Eva approaches these challenges with a combination of flexibility and practical creativity.
"Rather than focusing on what isn't possible, I prefer finding alternative ways to bring creative ideas to life within the available resources."
Her contribution is about ensuring the production has the practical conditions necessary to capture the live performances and environments.

When healthcare and cinema intersect
CALIBRATION explores trauma, psychological manipulation and the relationship between medical intervention and personal autonomy.
For Eva, whose professional training centres on understanding and supporting the human body, the film's psychological themes carry particular resonance.
"My healthcare background has taught me how important trust and personal autonomy are, especially in situations where people are vulnerable."
Her interest in psychological cinema was another reason for joining the project. She is drawn to stories that explore the complexities of human behaviour and challenge audiences to consider questions without necessarily providing comfortable answers.
The intersection of medicine, psychology and personal autonomy gives CALIBRATION a particular relevance to her experience, even as her responsibilities remain firmly rooted in the practical realities of production.
The physical cost of filmmaking
One area where Eva brings a particularly valuable perspective is crew wellbeing.
Film sets can be physically demanding workplaces. Extended periods of standing, irregular hours, fatigue and sustained concentration are routine aspects of production, yet the cumulative effects on crew members are not always given sufficient attention.
In physiotherapy, Eva works within a biopsychosocial framework, recognising that physical health cannot be separated from psychological and social wellbeing.
She would like to see this understanding become more prominent within film production, particularly through greater awareness of movement, fatigue and the effects of prolonged stress.
For a small independent production working to a demanding schedule, this awareness offers an additional dimension to unit management. The efficiency of a film set depends not only on equipment, locations, and timing, but also on the well-being of the people responsible for delivering the work.

The location challenges remain the same even when enhancing Prague locations with AI to create a more dystopian look.
Due to impossibly high location fees, Prague underground is being filmed in a studio.
