A Different Kind of Production Environment
Kata also joins one of the defining production choices behind CALIBRATION: an all-female film crew. It will be her first experience working within an entirely female crew.
“After my first conversation with Serani, I felt something different,” Kata says. “I felt that my experience and skills were being looked at simply as my experience and skills, without some of the expectations or comparisons that can sometimes come with being a woman working in production. It felt like an opportunity to experience filmmaking from a different perspective, and I wanted to be part of that.”
For Kata, good production leadership is not about creating noise around problems. It is about creating enough structure that the creative departments are protected from them.
She describes what she hopes to bring to CALIBRATION in three words:
“Calm, honest support and organisation. I’d love the production to feel organised enough that people can concentrate on being creative instead of worrying about all the details around them. If I can help create that space, I’ll be happy.”
It is perhaps the clearest expression of why Kata is such a natural fit for the production. Her career has moved between large studio machinery and smaller productions, but her philosophy remains centred on the people making the work.
“Almost every problem has a solution,” she says. “Staying calm and being strong enough to face an issue usually makes it much smaller than it first appears.”
And when CALIBRATION eventually wraps, her definition of success extends beyond what appears on screen.
“If everyone feels proud of both the film and how we made it, I’d say we did it properly.”

PRAGUE — September 2026 — CALIBRATION, the near-future psychological drama preparing to shoot in Prague this November, has welcomed international film and television production professional Kata Gábor as Producer.
Kata brings more than a decade of experience across international feature films, premium television, commercials, and live entertainment, with recent credits on productions for Legendary Pictures, Warner Bros., Apple TV, Paramount, Amazon MGM Studios, A24, and Netflix.
Her credits include Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune: Part Three, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, Death of a Unicorn, Eric, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, Ballerina Overdrive and FBI: International.
Her career has placed her at one of the most complex intersections of filmmaking: where cast, crew, schedules, logistics, and multiple departments have to function as a single production.
“Large productions teach you how important communication and structure are,” Kata says. “There are so many people, departments, and moving parts that even a small misunderstanding can have a big effect.”
That experience will now feed directly into CALIBRATION, where Kata joins director Serani Hunyi and the film’s Prague production team as the project moves closer to principal photography.
For Kata, producing is ultimately about something deceptively simple.
“I like creating the conditions where people can do what they are really good at.”
It’s an approach shaped not only by production management, but by extensive experience in assistant direction. Kata has worked in AD departments across major international productions, developing a practical understanding of how decisions made at production level ultimately affect the people responsible for executing them on set.
“Working as an AD taught me to understand what different departments actually need in order to do their jobs,” she explains. “When I make a production decision, I’m not only looking at the bigger picture, I can also think about what that decision will mean for the people who have to make it happen on the ground.”
That combination of macro-level organisation and ground-level production knowledge is particularly valuable to CALIBRATION, an ambitious independent production being built around a deliberately lean structure.
Kata’s experience extends beyond major studio sets. Earlier in her career, she led production and studio operations at Cabbage Film Factory in Budapest, overseeing more than twenty commercials, short films, and photographic productions, including schedules, budgets, crews, and post-production workflows encompassing editing, colour grading, and VFX.
She has also managed complex international live productions involving major artists, technical teams, vendors, and a 50-piece orchestra.
From the Studio System to Independent Film
Despite her experience on productions of considerable scale, it was precisely the intimacy of independent filmmaking that attracted Kata to CALIBRATION.
“On a big production, there are so many layers and moving parts. With an independent film, you can feel much closer to the reason everyone is there in the first place,” she says.
After engaging with CALIBRATION, Kata was also drawn to the darker psychological territory at the heart of the film.
“I liked the story and the way it explores grief, memory, neurodiversity, and the desire to escape pain. I’ve always liked more challenging and dark stories that don’t shy away from discomfort, pain, and depth.”
CALIBRATION is a near-future psychological drama set in Prague in 2040. At its centre is a deeply human question: what are we willing to sacrifice to stop the pain?
The project originated as an award-winning short screenplay by L. B. Schulman, from a story by Schulman and Hunyi, and has subsequently been adapted and expanded for the screen by director Serani Hunyi.
The original short screenplay won at the Austin International Film Festival 2026 and was selected for the Sofia World Film Festival.
