RESPONSIBLE AI USE

Human performances. Real emotions. Technology with purpose.

CALIBRATION is a human story, performed by human actors and directed by a human filmmaker. Artificial intelligence is used exclusively as a visual production tool to help bring its futuristic world to life.

Set in Prague in 2040, CALIBRATION presents a future that is unsettling precisely because it feels so familiar. The city remains recognisably Prague, but its architecture, public spaces and atmosphere reflect a society that has quietly evolved.

Creating this world on an independent film budget presents significant challenges. Elaborate futuristic sets, large-scale architectural modifications and expensive location rentals are often beyond the financial reach of independent productions.

AI-assisted visual effects allow CALIBRATION to overcome some of these limitations without compromising the performances, storytelling or creative contributions of its cast and crew.

A COMMITMENT TO HUMAN ACTORS

CALIBRATION does not use AI to generate, replace or recreate human actors in any capacity.

Every character is portrayed by a real performer. Every expression, gesture, silence and emotional response originates from an actor's performance.

The production does not use AI-generated actors, synthetic performances, digital face replacements or AI voice replicas.

Artificial intelligence is never used to alter an actor's emotional performance or manufacture expressions that were never performed.

The cast forms the emotional foundation of CALIBRATION. Their performances remain entirely human.

HOW AI IS USED

The production's use of AI is deliberately restricted to environmental enhancement and visual world-building.

1. Background and architectural transformation

CALIBRATION takes place in a near-future society where technology has quietly reshaped everyday life.

AI-assisted visual effects are used to modify existing backgrounds, introduce futuristic architectural elements and transform contemporary locations into environments appropriate to Prague in 2040.

These enhancements help establish sophisticated corporate facilities, controlled public spaces and futuristic infrastructure without requiring expensive physical set construction.

The actors are real. The locations are filmed. The environments are selectively enhanced.

2. Weather and atmospheric continuity

Weather plays an important role in the visual language of CALIBRATION.

The film's aesthetic is restrained, desaturated and quietly oppressive. However, natural weather conditions cannot always be controlled during a tightly scheduled production.

AI-assisted post-production may be used to replace bright blue skies with overcast conditions, introduce mist or atmospheric haze, or create a colder, more subdued environment.

These subtle adjustments ensure visual continuity and preserve the film's psychological atmosphere across scenes filmed on different days.

3. Environmental detail

AI may also be used to introduce subtle background elements that help establish the technological and social environment of 2040.

These additions complement the work of the production design and art departments rather than replace it.

Physical props, costumes, practical locations and carefully considered art direction remain central to the film's visual identity.

WHAT AI DOES NOT DO

The production maintains clear creative and ethical boundaries:

  • No AI-generated actors or digital extras replacing human performers.

  • No AI face-swapping or synthetic acting.

  • No manipulation of an actor's facial expressions or emotional performance.

  • No cloning of actors' voices or likenesses.

  • No replacement of the director, cinematographer, production designers, costume designers or other creative professionals.

  • No creation of new performances using an actor's identity.

AI is used to extend the creative possibilities available to the production team, never to eliminate the human contribution.

INDEPENDENT FILMMAKING WITHOUT COMPROMISE

There is a fundamental difference between using technology to replace creative professionals and using technology to expand what those professionals can achieve.

For an independent film, the cost of constructing futuristic architecture, transforming entire corporate complexes or controlling weather conditions would ordinarily be prohibitive.

AI-assisted post-production provides access to visual possibilities that would otherwise be beyond the production's resources.

This approach allows a greater proportion of the available budget to be directed towards the elements that matter most: talented actors, an experienced crew, thoughtful production design and the time required to capture authentic performances.

Every AI-assisted visual element remains subject to the director's creative decisions and the film's established visual language.

A FILM ABOUT TECHNOLOGY. MADE WITH HUMAN INTENTION.

There is a particular irony in the production of CALIBRATION.

The film explores the consequences of technological intervention in human experience, while emerging technology is being used to help create its fictional world.

The distinction lies in who remains in control.

Under the direction of Serani Hunyi, technology serves the creative vision rather than determining it.

AI does not direct the actors, interpret the characters or make storytelling decisions. It provides a means of creating environments that would otherwise be financially inaccessible to an independent production.

The philosophy behind CALIBRATION is simple: use AI to build the world around the actors, never to replace the humanity within it.
