Independent production studio Serani Studio (Prague) and AI creative partner Bottomline AI (France) have announced a strategic collaboration on CALIBRATION, a psychological dystopian drama currently in pre-production in Prague.

The project combines traditional filmmaking with carefully governed AI-assisted production techniques, creating a hybrid production model designed to support independent cinema while preserving human performance, creative authorship, and artistic integrity.

The collaboration brings together Serani Studio's filmmaker-led approach to narrative development and production with Bottomline AI's expertise in artificial intelligence-assisted visual development, workflow innovation, and post-production strategy.

Written by award-winning screenwriter L.B. Schulman and adapted for screen by director Serani Hunyi, CALIBRATION explores the ethical boundaries of trauma, memory, and emotional intervention in a near-future society increasingly driven by technological solutions to human complexity.

Set against the backdrop of Prague, the film follows Freya Hollister, a gifted quantitative systems analyst whose search for relief from severe PTSD leads her toward an experimental neurological procedure with irreversible consequences.

According to director, Serani Hunyi, the collaboration reflects a shared belief that emerging technologies should expand creative possibilities rather than replace creative people.

As part of the collaboration, Bottomline AI serves as AI Production Advisor on CALIBRATION, with founder Claudia Lalau as AI Director, leading the project's AI creative direction and supporting the integration of AI-assisted workflows throughout selected stages of production and post-production.

Beyond its exploration of emerging technology, the production is also notable for its commitment to supporting women working across both film and artificial intelligence.

The project is being produced by an all-female core crew, bringing together female filmmakers, producers, creatives, and technicians, supported by AI. The production team hopes to demonstrate how independent projects can create opportunities for women in both traditional creative industries and rapidly evolving technological fields.

Importantly, CALIBRATION is not an AI-generated film.

All principal characters are portrayed by real actors, with artificial intelligence used selectively to support specific visual environments and production workflows where practical filming would otherwise be prohibitively expensive for an independent production. The creative team describes the approach as "AI-assisted filmmaking" rather than AI filmmaking.

The film stars Una Kovac as Freya Hollister, alongside Alyona Osmanova, Igor Prielo, and Antoanella Ungureanu, bringing together a diverse European cast for a story that examines the intersection of technology, identity, autonomy, and emotional survival.

The production arrives at a time when the global film industry continues to debate the role of artificial intelligence in creative work. Rather than positioning AI as a replacement for filmmakers, actors, or craftspeople, the team behind CALIBRATION views technology as a tool that can help independent productions compete at a higher level while maintaining rigorous creative oversight.

The collaboration will explore new approaches to visual development, production planning, and post-production workflows while adhering to established standards of editorial control, accountability, and human-led decision-making.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Prague in November, with post-production continuing through 2027.

The project has already attracted international attention through its original screenplay, which received recognition from both the Austin International Film Festival and the Sofia World Film Festival.

As production moves forward, Serani Studio and Bottomline AI hope the collaboration will contribute to a broader industry conversation about how filmmakers can responsibly integrate emerging technologies without compromising artistic integrity, audience trust, or the essential human nature of storytelling.
