Those questions become even more interesting through the character of Dr. Daniela Králová. One of the challenges Lenka finds most exciting is discovering the humanity beneath her character’s professional exterior.
“The easy choice would be to play her in a robotic, one-dimensional way, but real people are never that simple.”
To prepare, she has immersed herself in research and character development, building a detailed backstory designed to uncover what drives Dr. Daniela beneath the surface. That process has led her to one of the character’s most fascinating contradictions. Is Dr. Daniela a loyal corporate operator? A compassionate healthcare professional? A protector? Or someone motivated by control?
“The audience will have to decide for themselves.”
As filming approaches, there is one scene in particular she is looking forward to tackling. Without revealing too much, it involves Dr. Daniela confronting two of the film’s central characters.
“Nobody messes with my patient's recovery.”
What excites Lenka most about the project, however, extends beyond her own role. She describes CALIBRATION as feeling less like a screenplay and more like an entire world, meticulously and intricately crafted by director Serani Hunyi.
“As an actor, having a world that detailed is an incredible gift because it sparks your imagination and gives you endless material to build the backstory that drives your performance.”
That attention to detail is something she also witnessed firsthand while working alongside Serani.
When the two first met in a Prague café to discuss the project, Lenka immediately sensed that CALIBRATION was something different.
“You could feel how much Serani cares about putting this story out into the world.”
For Lenka, one of the film’s greatest strengths is its ability to foster empathy.
“You don’t have to live with autism or PTSD yourself to connect with it, because chances are, someone you love already does.”
Ultimately, she hopes audiences leave the film thinking not only about its characters, but also about the broader questions it raises. Questions about healthcare, technology, ethics. And questions about the increasingly complex relationship between human beings, data, and the institutions that shape our lives.
For now, however, her focus remains firmly on bringing Dr. Daniela Králová to life. A character who may prove far more complicated than first impressions suggest.
Bringing Dr. Daniela Králová to Life: Meet Lenka Šilhánová
Some actors spend years waiting for the right role to find them.
For Lenka Šilhánová, it arrived in an unexpected form.
When she first won her audition for a small role in CALIBRATION, her character barely existed. At the time, her character was a nameless nurse with only one scene and one line of dialogue.
Since Lenka’s audition, director Serani Hunyi, who has been adapting the screenplay for the film, has developed the former nurse role into Dr. Daniela Králová, Director of Clinical Operations at Harbor and one of the film’s most intriguing figures.
“I’m absolutely thrilled about it,” says Lenka.
The development mirrors something she finds herself drawn to repeatedly as an actor: intelligent, capable women who exist beyond traditional stereotypes.
“I’m drawn to competent women with successful careers rather than roles where you just play somebody’s girlfriend, wife, or mother. I prefer characters who stand on their own.”
That fascination with strong female characters is hardly surprising. Long before she became involved in CALIBRATION, Lenka had already fallen in love with science fiction. In fact, she describes starring in a science-fiction series as one of her long-term ambitions.
Because of that, projects like CALIBRATION immediately capture her attention.
“I love science fiction because it’s so rich with complex female characters who break stereotypes and challenge societal norms.”
Her first encounter with the screenplay left a similarly strong impression.
“I couldn’t put it down.”
What struck her most was the script’s willingness to trust its audience. Rather than explaining everything, the story invites viewers to draw their own conclusions.
“It’s an incredibly compelling, intelligent screenplay that trusts the audience rather than spoon-feeding them information.”
Although set in the near future, Lenka believes many of the questions explored in CALIBRATION already exist in today’s world. She points to society’s growing obsession with self-improvement, optimisation, and performance enhancement.
“People are undergoing endless procedures to perform better, but how much of it is just smoke and mirrors?”
