From the earliest stages of development, director Serani Hunyi made a deliberate decision.

CALIBRATION would be produced by an entirely female team.

The decision reflected a deliberate approach to shaping the culture surrounding the production.

Like every aspect of filmmaking, from casting to cinematography, the composition of the team was considered part of the creative process itself.

While the film industry has made significant progress in recent years, many technical and leadership positions across production continue to be dominated by men. For Serani, CALIBRATION presented an opportunity to approach the process differently.

The motivation, however, was never simply about representation.

Instead, it stemmed from a belief that the culture surrounding a production influences the work that ultimately appears on screen.

"Every film develops its own personality," says Serani. "The people involved shape how problems are solved, how ideas evolve, how communication happens, and how the cast experiences the process. I wanted CALIBRATION to be built within an environment that prioritised collaboration, preparation, emotional intelligence, and mutual respect."

Set in a near-future world shaped by institutional control, behavioural intervention, and questions surrounding human autonomy, CALIBRATION explores complex psychological territory. Much of the film's tension emerges not from spectacle, but from subtle shifts in behaviour, perception, and emotional connection.

Assembling a team capable of navigating that material became an important consideration during pre-production.

Today, the project brings together women from a range of disciplines, including production, cinematography, communications, photography, make-up, post-production, and creative development. The team spans multiple countries, backgrounds, and professional experiences, united by a shared commitment to the film's vision.

For Serani, the decision reflects a broader belief that the culture surrounding a production is not separate from the work itself.

The environment in which a film is made influences communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and ultimately the finished result. Like casting, visual style, and production design, the composition of the team was treated as an intentional creative choice.

"Women have always been capable of leading productions, operating cameras, managing sets, designing visual effects, and driving complex creative projects. The industry doesn't always reflect that reality. I wanted CALIBRATION to demonstrate what happens when those opportunities are intentionally created."

Ultimately, audiences will judge CALIBRATION on the quality of the finished film rather than the composition of the crew behind it.

For Serani, that has always been the point.

The goal was never to assemble an all-female team for its own sake.

The goal was to assemble the strongest possible team to bring CALIBRATION to life.

The fact that the team is entirely female is part of the production's identity.
