Precision Behind the Silence: Meet Igor Prielo

In CALIBRATION, performance lives inside silence. Long pauses, restrained expression, and the smallest shifts in behaviour carry the emotional weight of the story. For Prielo, Dr. Reed is one of the most technically demanding characters he has undertaken.

In CALIBRATION, performance lives inside silence. Long pauses, restrained expression and the smallest shifts in behaviour carry the emotional weight of the story. For Prielo, Dr. Reed is one of the most technically demanding characters he has undertaken.

"The lack of human emotions, that's the challenge."

Rather than relying on familiar cinematic archetypes, he has deliberately stripped the character back.

"Dr. Reed is unique by design. I'm avoiding stereotypes and generic traits. There will be a lot of work in front of a mirror to make it look just wrong enough to be right for the role."

It is precisely that restraint that attracted him to the screenplay.

"There's no fluff. No waste. The actors have to do their jobs. Faces deliver the emotions. And emotions tell the story."

That philosophy mirrors director Serani Hunyi's vision for CALIBRATION, where atmosphere, silence and psychological tension are trusted over exposition.

Having worked on productions where preparation time is often limited, Prielo believes one aspect of CALIBRATION already distinguishes it from many projects.

"It's the first project I've worked on where we all have enough time to properly prepare for our roles and really challenge our characters and their stories."

Although rehearsals have largely taken place online, he is looking forward to finally meeting his fellow cast members in Prague, where months of preparation will give way to performance.

"The manipulation of human thoughts and behaviours resonates with me deeply, especially with the parallels to global politics," he says.

Without revealing the film's many surprises, Prielo hopes audiences leave carrying something more valuable than simple entertainment.

"I hope CALIBRATION remains in people's memories long after they've watched it, just like some great films have remained in mine."

For a film that explores memory, emotional control, and the hidden systems that shape human behaviour, it is a fitting ambition. One shared by both the actor and the story he now helps bring to life.

Some actors discover their profession through childhood dreams.

For Igor Prielo, it began with something far less romantic: avoiding university term papers.

Born in Slovakia, raised in Germany and educated in the United States, Prielo enrolled at Francis Marion University in South Carolina intending to study theatre simply because the classes required less academic writing. What began as a practical decision quickly became something far more significant.

"I discovered a passion for it," he recalls. "That theatre minor turned into a major part of my life."

That unexpected decision ultimately led him to Los Angeles, where he gained practical experience in one of the world's most demanding film environments before returning to Europe to build an international acting career across film, television, commercial production and live performance.

His recent screen work reflects that international journey. Prielo appears in the Czech feature Father, directed by Tereza Novotová, the action feature Afterburn, directed by acclaimed director and stunt coordinator J.J. Perry, and the upcoming historical drama The Swedish Connection, directed by Thérèse Ahlbeck and Marcus Olsson. Based on the remarkable true story of Swedish diplomat Gösta Engzell, the film features one of Sweden's most accomplished ensemble casts, including Henrik Dorsin, Jonas Karlsson, Sissela Benn and Marianne Mörck.

Now he brings that international perspective to CALIBRATION, portraying Dr. Elias Reed, a psychiatrist whose calm professionalism conceals a far more unsettling purpose.

From the moment he encountered the project, Prielo sensed this would be a very different kind of production.

"The poster and casting description had me hooked right away," he says. "Right there, I knew this was going to be a million-dollar movie!"

Preparing for Dr. Reed extends far beyond learning dialogue.
